Oxfordshire Updates – latest news including electric blanket testing

17th July 2026 by Parish News

Message from Maria Hepworth, Community Engagement Officer:

How Safe is your Electric Blanket Flyer 2026

Get your electric blanket tested for free by our partnership group of organisations. They include Oxfordshire County Council Trading Standards, Fire Service, all 5 Oxfordshire District Councils, Volunteer Driver Service and Age Uk Oxfordshire.

We have offered this service for 25 years this autumn and from the previous years testing we know it is as valuable today as it was in the first few years.

In 2025 we tested 920 blankets and over 36% failed the safety test; showing how important it is that we keep offering this service.

As part of our winter safety program, we’re offering free electric blanket testing to all Oxfordshire residents. Ensure your blanket is safe and warm for the upcoming season.

Testing Dates and Areas:

September 2026:
21/9/26: Thame
22/9/26: Rose Hill, Oxford
23/9/26: Banbury
24/9/26: Chipping Norton
25/9/26: Abingdon
October 2026:
5/10/26: Didcot
6/10/26: Barton, Headington
7/10/26: Bicester
8/10/26: Witney
9/10/26: Wantage

How to Book:

Pre-book your spot by:

calling 01865 519800
go online and book https://service.oxfordshire.gov.uk/blankettesting
or emailing duty.officer@oxfordshire.gov.uk.
On-site time slots available from 9am.
Remember, places are limited, so don’t miss out on this essential safety check!

Tea, biscuits and very useful information from partner organisations are available during the testing sessions.

If you can’t come to us, we want to make sure all blankets are tested, so we will arrange for a small amount of collections to be made each day.

Stay warm and safe this winter! 🌟

Kind regards

Maria Hepworth

The Street Tag app helps encourage communities to be active, by rewarding movement with points. We’d love your help in sharing the benefits in your communications or conversations with residents.

It’s easy for anyone to get involved. They just need to download the app through the links below or on our website, select the Oxfordshire school they’d like to support, get moving, and watch the points start to build.
