This is an aerial photograph taken by the USAAF photographic reconnaissance (PR) aircraft during the Second World War. Use the link below to see a closer image. Note the field of allotments above the brook, the lack of houses on the Hardwick Road and the planes “hidden” amongst the trees on the Shelswell Estate. We understand from another site that there was ammunition stored alongside the Cottisford and other local roads which show on this image.
