Message from the County Council:
Today, the government confirmed that Oxfordshire and West Berkshire will move to three new councils in 2028, bringing together current county, city and district services.
The government has considered all three options submitted alongside consultation feedback to reach its conclusion.
We’ve been working hard across the councils of Oxfordshire and West Berkshire to ensure we are ready to move forward, whatever the decision. We will now work with real drive to continue to deliver the best services we can for residents, now and for the future.

Hethe will be covered by a Northern Oxfordshire Council – covering most of the existing Cherwell and West Oxfordshire districts.
Northern Oxfordshire is made up of strong and ambitious towns working to fulfil their growth priorities while maintaining their character, including Banbury, Bicester, Carterton and Witney. It is a key tourism and shopping destination for the UK, with attractions including Bicester Village and Blenheim Palace, as well as the natural beauty of the Cotswolds.

Parish and town councils have an important place in neighbourhood governance and in the wider community empowerment agenda. A new neighbourhood governance framework, due later this year, will set out the principles and guidance for how these arrangements will work in practice, with parish and town councils expected to play a central role.
