As you may be aware, we‘re carrying out essential works on the M40 at junction 10 to widen the southbound exit slip road into three lanes as it approaches the A43 Padbury roundabout.
During the last phases of the scheme we’ll require weekend closures. These are currently programmed for:
- Friday 9 May, 9.30pm until 6am – A43 closed between Baynard green & Cherwell Southbound.
- Saturday 10 May, 9.30pm until 6am – A43 closed Cherwell to Baynards Green North bound.
- Sunday 11 May, 9.30pm until 6am – A43 closed between Baynards Green & Cherwell Southbound.

Notice from National Highways:
I am emailing to let you know about some upcoming road works planned on the M40.
June 2024 until Summer 2025, we will be carrying out essential improvement works on the southbound section of the M40 at Junction 10 Padbury where it meets the A43. This is a busy junction and this much needed work will increase capacity and extend the life of the road.
During our scheme of work, we will:
- Widen the southbound slip road to three lanes as it enters the roundabout
- Provide smart signals at all the junctions
- Protect the local environment and clearing overgrown vegetation
We need to have traffic management in place to safely complete the works. It will be as follows:
• Weekday daytime (6am to 9:30pm) – temporary 50mph speed limit with southbound slip road remaining open,
• Weekday night time (9:30pm to 6.00am) – closure of the M40 southbound exit slip with the diversion to Junction 9 and back
• 24 hour lane closures of the M40 southbound approach nearside lane
• 24 hour lane closures of A43 north and southbound with temporary 50mph speed limit
• Occasional weekday night time (9:30pm to 6.00am) closures of the sections of the A43 northbound or southbound
Once completed, all road users will benefit from improved road safety and lower journey times through the junction.
