Many households managed to put out a public marker of the anniversary of declaring the second world war in Europe to be over, with union jacks and bunting – much of it home made – on display across the village.
We were blessed with a warm and still day, allowing individual households to have afternoon tea or evening drinks in their own front gardens, adding to the sense of community spirit which is growing every Thursday night as we step out of our houses to clap, bang and clatter for the NHS. The day ended with the Queen’s speech and a dispersed rendition of ‘We’ll meet again’
