GNS-Oxon-booklet-Sept-2021
Good Neighbour schemes are local voluntary groups which offer a service in their community for those in need of help and support.
They offer befriending and practical help to older people – whether it’s transport, collecting repeat prescription, walking the dog, tidying up the garden, taking someone to hospital, doing a bit of shopping or changing a light bulb. The service aims to help people to stay independent, safe and well.
Want to get involved? Become a Good Neighbourhood Scheme volunteer!
We want every community in Oxfordshire to have a Good Neighbour Scheme so that people have a group to turn to if they need help or support. We are encouraging more people to join one and become part of this vital service. You don’t need a lot of time to become a volunteer or to set a new scheme up in your area; if you’ve an hour a week or more to spare, we would like to hear from you.
If you are thinking of setting up a Good Neighbour Scheme or have already set one up but need some support, we can provide you with the tools and guidance to make it work. Those establishing a new scheme can apply to a start-up fund to help with the initial set-up.

The Good Neighbour Scheme Support Service is run by Volunteer Link Up, working with AgeUK Oxfordshire as part of the Community Information Network (a project funded by Oxfordshire County Council) – we support Good Neighbour Schemes in Oxfordshire, helping local communities to set up a new scheme or helping existing schemes to run efficiently.
